ALL STUDENTS:

  1. SENIORS:

  1. THE JOINT APPRENTICESHIP AND TRAINING COMMITTEE will be accepting applications for the Inside Wireman Apprenticeship program on the first working Monday of each month.  Requirements are:  Applicant must be 18 years of age or older. Applicant must have completed one year of high school algebra with a passing grade.   1. CHERRY HILL DENTAL ASSISTING PROGRAM is a ten week program which meets on Saturdays.  The program is certified by the Missouri Department of Higher Education.  The course offers 50 hours of classroom and clinical instruction from a doctor of dental surgery and expanded functions dental assistants.  The next session begin June 23.  For more information on the program, contact Cherry Hill Dental at 2012 Cherry Hill Drive, Rosewood Bldg., Ste 102, Columbia, MO 65203 or 573-446-0880.  Total cost of the training is $2700 plus session expenses of approximately $270.  Financial Aid is available.  If interested, see Mrs. Flowers for a packet.

AVILA UNIVERSITY has a new scholarship opportunity for those employed in Catholic ministries or serve as employees to our diocese.  SERVICE TO THE FAITH SCHOLARSHIP OFFERS $2500 PER YEAR to any and all dependents of a full time employee of Catholic school, a Catholic parish a Catholic sponsored health organization, a Catholic charity, or any other Catholic ministry.   1. ROLLA AREA BRANCH NAACP YES I CAN EDUCATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP is open to those incoming freshman attending the University of Missouri-Rolla.  To qualify, you must demonstrate financial need and be a member of the NAACP.  The scholarship is worth $800.   The application deadline is the end of May.  See Mrs. Flowers if interested or you can call for an application at: 573-368-4616.

SCHOLARSHIP AND PROGRAM ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR THE WEEK OF APRIL 23, 2007

ALL PARENTS:  ALLSTATE FOUNDATION new online resource, www.ProtectTeenDrivers.com . Using this web site, parents can find a variety of information, including state-by-state teen driving laws, tips for talking to their teens and other parents, plus suggestions for how parents can help encourage high schools to create safe driving cultures within their community. 

SENIORS:

  1. ROTARY WEST SCHOLARSHIP is a $500 scholarship which applies to LINCOLN UNIVERSITY.  If you are a senior who plans to attend Lincoln in the fall, you are qualified for this scholarship.  The deadline for the application is May 2.  See your counselor for the application.
  1. JEFFERSON CITY JAYCEES SCHOLARSHIP is a $1000 scholarship or a $500 scholarship open to all graduating seniors.  The application deadline is May 4.  See your counselor for the application.
  1. THE URBAN FLIGHT AND RURAL NEEDS SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM requires you to have at least a 2.5 GPA and intend to pursue a career in teaching.  The scholarship covers one hundred percent of the total cost of eligible students’ tuition and fees up to four years at a four year college or university located in Missouri.  After graduation, you are required to keep the Department of Education informed of your status as a teacher in Missouri public schools for the required 8 years.   If not teaching in public schools, the scholarship converts back to a loan.  The application deadline is July 1, 2007.  See Mrs. Flowers for the application  You may also go to:  www.dese.mo.gov

JUNIORS AND SENIORS:

1.  MCKENDREE COLLEGE in Lebanon, Illinois offers a variety of MUSIC SCHOLARSHIPS.  McKendree is ranked among the top 14 percent of “Comprehensive Colleges-Bachelor’s” in the nation by U.S. News and World Report.  Music scholarships can be worth up to $8000.  For more information, go to: www.mckendree.edu/music

SOPHOMORES AND JUNIORS:

SENIORS:

  1. CAPITAL CITY/LAKE OZARK CHAPTER OF THE MISSOURI RESTAURANT ASSOCIATION.  This scholarship is designed to assist students with a desire to pursue a career in the FOODSERVICE  AND HOSPITALITY INDUSTRY.  The application deadline is April 27.  See your counselor for the application.
  2. JOB FAIR AT THE LAKE OF THE OZARKS is scheduled for April 24, from noon until 8p.m. at the Inn at Grand Glaize on Hwy. 54 in Osage Beach.  If you’re looking for a job, several business owners will be waiting to talk to you….so make plans to attend.

SENIORS:

  1. CAPITOL REGION ASSOCIATION OF INSURANCE AND FINANCIAL ADVISORS SCHOLARSHIP is a $250 scholarship given to 5 graduating seniors.  Each entrant will complete an essay with the title of “The Importance of Life Insurance.”  Entries must be turned in by April 20.  See your counselor for the application.
  2. NASHVILLE AUTO DIESEL COLLEGE SCHOLARSHP provides a $1000 tuition scholarship to high school seniors with a strong technical aptitude who want to pursue a career in the transportation field by attending Nashville Auto Diesel College. If interested in this scholarship, see Mrs. Flowers.  The application deadline is April 13.
  3. SIGMA PHI EPSILON FRATERNITY BALANCED MAN SCHOLARSHIP is a scholarship offered in the amount of $500 and $1000 to a senior male planning to attend the University of Missouri-Columbia.  The application deadline is April 27.  You may pick up an application from your counselor or you may go online to apply at:  www.sigep.org/mizzou
  4. U.S. WOMEN IN NUCLEAR SCHOLARSHIP  is a $500 scholarship awarded to a senior who plans to pursue a career in a power related field of study.  This would include students pursuing careers in electrical, gas or nuclear power generation including engineering programs in electrical, mechanical civil, nuclear, computer science or administrative assistant programs or programs in business or technical schools.   An essay is required on the topic: “My Career in the Energy Field” no more than 200 words.   5. FIREFIGHTERS SCHOLARSHIP is a $500 scholarship open to a senior who plans to pursue a career in Firefighting, Law Enforcement, or as an EMT.  See your counselor for the application.  The application deadline is April 20.
  6. BRUNING/STAMPFLI SCHOLARSHIP is a $1000 scholarship which is available to a graduating senior in the top 25% of their class.  Consideration is given to character, financial need and participation in activities.  This scholarship is not renewable.  The deadline for the application is April 20.  See your counselor for the application.

KWOS SPORTSCASTERS SCHOLARSHIP is open to a graduating senior who has a good academic record and has lettered in at least one sport.  This scholarship is worth $500 and is not renewable.  The scholarship can be used at the school of the recipient’s choice.  The application deadline is April 20.  See your counselor for the application.
  8. A.J. SCHWARTZE SCHOLARSHIPS are available first to graduating Seniors from Osage County in the top 1/3 of their senior class.  If all scholarships are not awarded among the top 1/3, then seniors from Osage County in the top ½ will be considered.  If Osage County residents do not use all the scholarship available, then any senior in the top 1/3 of the class will be considered.  The scholarship must be used to attend a school in the State of Missouri.  The scholarship is renewable if a GPA of 2.5 is maintained.  The scholarship amount varies from year to year but traditionally has been around $2000 per year.  The application deadline is April 20.  See your counselor for the application.
  9. THE JOSEPH MAYER SCHOLARSHIPS are available to graduating seniors with a minimum GPA of 2.0.  The scholarship considers grade point average, personal character, educational ambition, talent, aptitude test scores and economic need. Multiple scholarships are given.  The scholarship can be used at any college or technical school of the students’ choice.  The scholarship is renewable if a GPA of 2.0 is maintained.  The scholarship amount varies from year to year but traditionally has been around $1500 per year.  The application deadline is April 20.  See your counselor for the application.

3.  SCHUBMEHL-PREIN PRIZE for BEST ESSAY ON SOCIAL IMPACT OF COMPUTING is a competition focusing on a particular aspect of computing technology.  The first place award is $1000, the second place award is $500 and the third place award is $250.  The topic for the 2007 competition is: What is needed to secure the software that controls our nation’s critical infrastructure?  The maximum length of the main body of an essay should be limited to 2500 words in length.  Essays should be submitted by midnight, Eastern Standard Time, May 31.  The competition web page is :  www.cse.nd.edu/EssayContest and updated details are announced there.  The prize for this essay is made possible by an endowment from the University of Notre Dame.

SOPHOMORES AND JUNIORS:

  1. MISSOURI BUSINESS WEEK is a program on the campus of the University of Missouri-Columbia from June 24-28.  At Missouri Business Week, you’ll discover team building, ethics, leadership and your own special qualities.  You’ll be a part of a student company that will compete in a variety of challenges: the production of television commercials, web site designs and more.  Selection to the Business Week is based on the quality of the completed application, good school citizenship, academic and extra-curricular record, a GPA of 3.0 or better and a positive recommendation from a teacher or counselor.  Approximately 200 students will attend on scholarship.  If chosen, your cost is only $75.00 registration fee.   2. SAINT LOUIS UNIVERSITY, WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY AND THE UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI-ST. LOUIS STARS PROGRAM (Students and Teachers as Research Scientists) is a program that introduces students to the various aspects of the scientific enterprise as practiced by successful scientists in academic, private and governmental research institutions.  55 high ability students have the opportunity to participate in research projects in BIOLOGY, CHEMISTRY, COMPUTER SCIENCE, ENGINEERING, PHYSICS OR PSYCHOLOGY at one of the above schools.  This is a six week program running from June 11 to July 20 at a cost of $1250.  To learn more and apply, go to: http://www.umsl.edu/~sep/stars.htm   

FRESHMEN:

1.  LEADERSHIP IN PRACTICE is a three day program that teaches young people decision making  and leadership skills.  Leadership in Practice uses speakers, small group discussions and activities to learn the characteristics of good leadership and how to apply them.  The Missouri Chamber of Commerce has scholarships of $150 for students who wish to apply.  The ONLY cost to the student is a $25 registration fee.
