Introduction
to Music Research Papers
Each unit you will
write a brief research paper on a given composer/performer selected from the
provided list. Papers should cover basic
biographical information about your composer, as well as major events in history
that occurred during your person’s life, major compositions, and any unusual or
interesting facts you may find. Papers
are to be 2 pages in length, not including the reference page, typed and
double-spaced. Points will be taken off
for unusually large spacing, fonts, margins, etc. Each paper is worth 50 points.
Papers should meet the following guidelines:
1)
References – you
must use at least 2 references in your paper.
You do not need to cite the references in the paper unless you use a
direct quote. All references should be
listed in a reference page at the end of the paper. You may use online or printed sources.
2)
All papers must
be typed. If the paper is not typed it
will not be accepted.
3)
Margins will be 1
inch on all sides. Font should be Times
New Roman, Arial, Bookman Old Style, or a similar sized font – 12 point.
4)
Grammar and
Spelling will be graded. Spell Check can
be used, as well as dictionaries and other references. Ask if you need help.
5)
Late papers will
lose 5 points per class day.
6)
You may choose to
do a Power Point presentation or poster; however, make sure you have the amount
of information that would fill a 2-page paper.
