  Homecoming Week

By Lauren Paller

Homecoming week is when the whole school displays their spirit for the football team. It all begins with the Powderpuff and the Powderpuff games on Sunday, starting at 1 pm.  Powderpuff is when the girls play football. Powderpuff is when the boys play volleyball.  Freshmen play sophomores, juniors against seniors, and seniors versus. teachers.

Monday, the freshmen dress up in their theme, Tuesday sophomores, Wednesday juniors and Thursday seniors. This year’s themes were seasons. The day before each class’s spirit day, the students come in from 4-9 PM to decorate the school. Each class parades around the school, making lots of noise to show their spirit as a class. Then after school, they have to clean up their decorations.

The freshmen’s theme was summer. They decorated the top floor of the school for Independence Day and the middle floor as a beach. In the cafeteria, they had a huge palm tree set up. Most of the students dressed up as lifeguards, swimmers, mermaids, and in Hawaiian grass skirts.

Spring was the sophomore theme. They used decorations to represent Easter and Marti Gras. The students made a statement in butterflies, bunny, flower, baseball, soccer, hunter, and bumblebee costumes.

The junior theme was fall. Helias swarmed with Thanksgiving and Halloween decorations. It was enjoyable to see the many different Halloween costumes. Other people dressed up as leaves, turkeys, and black cats.

It was a cold day at Helias for the seniors. Their theme was winter. The day started with a snow schedule, school began at 9 AM. They had ice donated from the Jefferson City Ice Arena. There was a huge Christmas tree displayed in the cafeteria to spread Christmas joy. The seniors also made an igloo in the front of school.

On Friday, the whole school showed their spirit by wearing jeans and sport jerseys.  School dismissed at 1 pm with an assembly at noon. During the assembly, different sports were announced and skits were performed. At 6:30 AM there was a parade downtown with floats and candy being passed out. Right after that, there was a pep rally in front of the capital.

Saturday was game day. There was mass in the field house at 3:45 PM. Following, was the tailgate in the parking lot that was put on by student council. Then, the Helias varsity football team played the Mexico Bulldogs. Helias continued their undefeated season with a victory. Now they are 9 and 0.

Homecoming concluded with the dance on Sunday night from 8 to 11 pm and no school on Monday.
