  Excitement Leading Into Homecoming Weekend

By Brooke Carter

As you all have noticed “Saders” have school spirit through and through. Our homecoming week is packed from beginning to end with fun activities. Our theme this year was “The Four Seasons.”

The freshman started our week off with giving us our last taste of summer. Sophomores following it up with Spring on Tuesday, Juniors on Wednesday with Fall, and Seniors had a memorable finish demonstrating Winter.

Ever wonder how and who determines class of the year? Well, I talked to Mr. Ochsner and Sister Jean and got the answers. It is determined by each class’s float, spirit day, and other activities showing spirit and sportsmanship. They even look at the discipline points.

I asked Mr. Ochsner what he thought of homecoming week. He said, “It is an ongoing competition between the four classes. They try to determine which class did the best overall job and lived up to the high standards we have for the classes.

Sister Jean said, “There’s been a high percentage of student participation, which really helps build class spirit and school spirit. Sister Jean added, “This is an important and fun time of year; not only to us at Helias but to Alumni. It is important for us to show participation in doing the mass, parade, and our football players leading us to victory! The dance is a chance to see all the kids dressed up, it is fun to watch.”

As you see, Saders have school spirit through and through from freshman to seniors. The Helias faculty even gets into the spirit. I think it’s safe to say we had an exciting and fun-filled homecoming week.
