Procrastinating vs. Extreme Planning
By Maria Donovan
Christmas is rapidly approaching. With Christmas also comes something that is dreaded by all: final exams. From the seniors, who have been through this many times, to the freshmen, who for some, this may be their first finals ever, all are worried and nervous at the thought of taking a huge test over everything they have learned in the last semester.
There are lots of different styles of preparing for the exams. Some start studying three weeks in advance with flashcards and post-it notes while others, who like to call themselves procrastinators, wait until the morning of the test to open their book. Then there is the average student that starts studying about a week in advance; sometimes more, sometimes less. It all depends on the student and what grade they need or want on the final.
Another option is to stay up late and wake up very early to study, but then if the exam is easy, you want to kick yourself for wasting those precious hours of sleep. It also throws your sleeping habits off for a week or two. That is a pretty lengthy consequence for cramming late one night.
It is also interesting to watch people who say they won’t study but you know they do secretly. They think they are way too cool to actually study for an exam, but the truth is, they need a good grade on the final. It can be funny to watch their brains process: “Should I study and look dumb, or not study and fail?”
So whether you started studying at the beginning of the month or are pretending not to, everyone at Helias can’t wait until December 23 is over and Christmas break begins.
